yea I use Lijit too and I was pretty impressed with their welcome e-mail the first time I got it. The weekly stat email they send does two things:
1.) show you your stats obviously and
2.) Take you back to your acct on their site.

The 2nd point it huge as far as I a concerned, since I never really go to their site except sometimes when I see the stats email and click on it so I can get a broader perspective. good marketing.

I was also super impressed with my welcome e-mail to Lijit! It was even better because I knew Grace before hand, so that made it even more personal. I couldn't help but to automatically thinka bout how other business could use such great tactics (both through email marketing and other methods) to welcome their customers, explain their product, and express their gratitude for choosing them. That simple action left a lasting impression on me that helped turn me into a fan of their brand.

So, I present a gold star to Grace and her Lijit team! :)

Monica, I'm so glad the e-mail and Lijit were well received.

You have brought up points that I didn't even realize and they're very pertinent to e-mail marketing. It's funny because as a blogger and (avid) online consumer I receive so many e-mails. They're always automated and never really interest me. I usually delete them. This DIRECTLY plays into how Lijit creates our community and respects our users. It's like a do unto others situation :)

I never mentioned this but when I first signed up with Lijit, I received a personalized e-mail from another team member and that led to my job here at Lijit. We focus on being 'real' and since we're all bloggers at Lijit, we want to help our fellow bloggers in return.

As always, you know where to reach me and always feel free to be in touch and ask any questions. Thanks for this, it's a great piece!

That's so great that everyone gets a fabulous welcome email.

I think the beauty of Lijit is probably the reporting tools. Google can't offer that – they only offer search using their algorithms. I'm really excited to dig into my analytics once I get more.

Thanks for the comment!

I'm the same way. I think it's clear from the comments section on this post and the Twitter feedback I've seen that the extra few minutes to do a welcome email makes a HUGE difference. Can you imagine turning every user into a brand advocate? What an awesome accomplishment.

Thanks for the comment Jackie!

Lijit clearly has a great business philosophy. One of the reasons I read your email to begin with was that it came after a period of time. Usually I receive a welcome email from services right away – I don't read them because they usually don't say anything worthwhile. So I knew when I received your email it was probably personalized, and thus more important.

Thanks for the inspiration! I am about to start a newsletter and I'm really going to rethink some of my strategies.

That is the most impressive welcome email I have ever read. It's amazing how much of an impact personalizing an email can have. Although some things can be automated, there are definitely certain touch points that should be personalized.

Elizabeth,

I agree! It's hard to believe that automated emails are half as effective as personal ones. That alone makes personalized emails a good return on investment.

Thanks for the comment!
