Congratulations on the new job! I’m excited to see how things turn out. I’ve always wondered, though, how does a Web site like Brazen Careerist make money?

Yana, thanks for your support. I don’t actually know the details of the company’s earnings, but the website is only one part of the company. Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one!

Huge congrats Monica. This’ll be an enormous learning opp for you working directly with someone like Penelope.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats. Twitter is another thing I’m updating regularly now as a result of this move, so feel free to follow me and I will follow you too (my name is moni247).

It will definitely be an interesting experience, and I’m sure I’ll blog about it sometimes, but I don’t think the majority of the content on Twenty Set will change. I realized today that I’ve strayed a little from the reason I started Twenty Set – to help people. I’m looking forward to concentrating on that in the coming weeks, and working at BC will give me that opportunity.

How exciting!!!! I also read that blog.

Just curious, what is your Myers-Briggs type? What do you think they were looking for??? i think this is interesting.. What is a typical blogger’s MB type..?

Monica O'Brien April 21, 2008 at 6:27 pm

Amy, my Myers-Briggs type is INTJ/P. I was half-joking when I wrote that it almost determined whether they hired me, but companies do use personality tests to make hiring decisions sometimes. Brandon A at Newly Corporate wrote about this a few months ago, and one of the biggest problems with using PTs is they are self-scored, and people may view themselves differently than they actually are, or could lie to get the job. For men, this info is more of a nice-to-know than a determining factor.

To answer your question, I think any company that uses personality tests as information for hiring decisions ultimately wants to have a balance of personality types.

As for what type of personality is more likely to be a blogger, the only thing I think would have to be the same is Introvertedness. Because extroverts are out there talking about their ideas, not writing about them… But there are varying degrees, and despite labeling myself as introverted I’m pretty sociable.

That is interesting about introverted/extroverted with blogging/writing. I am ENTP. I am 1 of the only librarians that I know that is an E, not an I.

we’re Amy. I’m an ENTP hehe

congrats, Monica!!

Hey Monica,

I was interested to know your next move when I read your previous post about quitting your job, but I wasn’t expecting the move to Brazen Careerist! Wow. That’s really awesome. I can only imagine that that will mean quite a change for you! Definitely keep us updated.

By the way, for some reason, I totally would’ve pegged you for an extrovert – I guess it’s hard to tell these things over a blog.

Best of luck!

Congrats Monica,

Looks like a crazy move, but with all the great things happening over at Brazen I’m sure you will play a huge part in taking them to that next level!

I work for an HR Conulting firm and we use tests like that for clients so they get the “right fit.” It is becoming very popular! Congrats on the new job!

I love the MBTI and use it as a way to understand everyone in know. Great to know you ‘fit’ with your colleagues. Sounds like you’ve done a great job of creating a great job. Congratulations, Monica – You’re a great role model for people everywhere ;-)

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the comments and congrats. I might write a post about MBTI sometime soon, because I’ve learned a lot more about it since writing this post. I also decided I was more INTP than INTJ, and I made my husband take the test again and he is ISFJ, almost the exact opposite of me, which I find fascinating.
